mhc-association“The Gashwiler family has made an incredibly positive impact at our community in the last two years,” said Bernice Zimmerman, executive director of Hillside Health Care Center. “They greatly enrich the lives of our residents and promote a rewarding environment for fellow volunteers and team members.”

Three generations of the Gashwiler family donate several hours of their time each visit. A typical visit includes Grandma, the parents and their two children. The Gashwiler family are neighbors to Hillside Health Care Center, so they are able to come by and support all special events, including holidays and birthdays. When not supporting special events, the family provides one-on-one social visits. Other typical visits include playing board games with residents and decorating cards.

The Gashwilers began working with Cold Springs Elementary to have the children volunteer at our Center. Children from the local school visit with our residents, creating opportunities for mutual sharing and learning between generations.

“The Gashwilers are important members of a growing volunteer base,” said Kyle Williams, volunteer coordinator of Hillside Health Care Center. “In 2015, the Center had a total of 796 donated volunteer hours, and we are well on our way to surpassing that this year. The Missoula community has been tremendously generous with their time and resources.”
